I recently purchased the Pathfinder Core Rulebook and noticed the mass cure spells listed Maximum additions of over 20 when referencing the caster level. After searching the forums for a few hours, I could not find any thread that addressed this. Therefore, here is my first post to the forums:
The Cure Critical Wounds, Mass spell indicates that it cures 4d8 points of damage +1 per caster level (maximum +40) for up to one target per caster level. Assuming that epic level play is not involved, the maximum of +40 seems to be moot. Am I missing something?
Am I correct in assuming that a level 20 Cleric would cure 4d8 +20 points per target?
Or does it mean that the level 20 Cleric would cure 4d8 to each target, with additional points of up to 20 per target, but the additional points spread among all targets can not exceed 40?

That is correct. 4d8+20 point healed to each target. And yes, the +40 cap won't be reached until well into epic levels. Though there are ways to increase your caster level without actually increasing your character level, I don't think you can increase it that much.
