Can you pick a trait for a starting character which wont actually manifest itself until some time later in your life?

For example, could you pick the two-world magic trait, even though you don't start as a spellcaster, but then take the benefit of the trait when, later, you take a level as a spellcaster?

From a role-play point of view I see nothing wrong with this - it's just a talent you have which has not yet become apparent. I was just wondering if there was anything in the rules preventing this.

Yes. Magical Lineage lets you choose a spell you can cast with metamagic as if one level lower. If you pick "fireball" you'll be level 5 before you can use it.


Yes you can for instance you could also take the one which lowers the metamagic cost of a specific spell for a spell you don't have yet.

Such as a monk sorcerer taking the feat so he can extend his mage armor even though he is ony a monk right now.
