They did two things in general one is that you can add 10 to the DC to help speed it up and second when crafting by the day you simply divide your result by 7 instead using the roll as an amount of copper instead of silver.
For an alchemist you have several options the first is at level three which cuts your time in half (not sure how Gms handle this one I double the final check.)
Second with 5 ranks in craft alchemy you can take master Alchemist as a feat letting you treat your roll as gold peices finished and allowing you to make your Int mod worth of poisons at once.
If the game goes high enough your alchemist will get Instant Alchemy which allows you to make alchemical items as Full round actions I believe.

There's an alchemist spell/formula (Crafter's Fortune) that will give you a boost to a Craft check, and the higher the better, as if you double the needed DC it cuts the time in half (triple = one-third, and so on).
There's the Master Alchemist feat that changes the "sp value" needed to complete the item. (10x faster, depending)
Under the Craft skill description, the note at the end, "Special" indicates the above noted +10 to the DC to speed up the process.

Check out paizo.com/forums/dmtz33qy?Master-Alchemist-Feat-a-fix-or-too-powerful#14 for an amazing alchemy spreadsheet. Has all the different things you can make, the amount of time to make them, and accounts for both the alchemist's class feature and the master alchemist feat.
Linkified, and thanks for the kind words. ;) A few things I need to change, but it works.
