Combat Reflexes and temporary dex damage / bonus

Rules Questions

Am I correct in my reading that temporary bonuses / penalties / damage to dex will not affect the number of attacks of opportunity granted by combat reflexes?

Say my character has combat reflexes and a dex of 14. If he drinks a potion of enlarge person (temporary penalty to dex of -2), he would still have 3 AoO granted by the feat, correct?

Ability penalties are treated like damage

Spoiler:
Some spells and abilities cause you to take an ability penalty for a limited amount of time. While in effect, these penalties function just like ability damage, but they cannot cause you to fall unconscious or die. In essence, penalties cannot decrease your ability score to less than 1.

Dexterity Damage Rules

Spoiler:
Ability Damage: Damage to your Dexterity score causes you to take penalties on Dexterity-based skill checks, ranged attack rolls, initiative checks, and Reflex saving throws. The penalty also applies to your Armor Class, your Combat Maneuver Bonus (if you are Tiny or smaller), and to your Combat Maneuver Defense.

Combat Reflexes text

Spoiler:

Benefit: You may make a number of additional attacks of opportunity per round equal to your Dexterity bonus. With this feat, you may also make attacks of opportunity while flat-footed.

Even with the dexterity damage penalties it seems that with a 14 dex naturally and a 2 dex penalty, the dexterity bonus referenced in the feat is still +2.

Ability Damage does not actually drop your dex so you still get all of you AoO's.

I always thought any time your ability score raised or lowered, it changed the modifier, and whatever was affected by the modifier.

Ability Damage changes some things, but not everything. It is not like 3.5 anymore.

That's not just 3.5, that was the way I remember it from 2nd edition too. So, you're saying ONLY those things listed are affected by the dex ability damage?

Grand Lodge

Pathfinder is very much not 2nd edition.

Yeah only those things listed by the OP are affected. I don't remember 2nd edition, but it may have played ability damage the same way. I do know that in 3.5 everything attached to dex would have been reduced.

Well.. That sucks. I don't think my DM plays it that way though. It's very weird that, purely as a player, I like the harsher version I thought was the rule better.

I don't do it that way either because that would force me to memorize what gets affected. I still do it the old way.
