Okay, so a "discussion" popped up in a PFS game tonight about how the stoneskin spell works, specifically how the DR/10 adamantine works with the damage absorption.
The warded creature gains resistance to blows, cuts, stabs, and slashes. The subject gains DR 10/adamantine. It ignores the first 10 points of damage each time it takes damage from a weapon, though an adamantine weapon bypasses the reduction. Once the spell has prevented a total of 10 points of damage per caster level (maximum 150 points), it is discharged.
I have always taken this to mean the first ten points of damage are soaked up by the spell, unless done by an adamantine weapon, until the maximum amount of protection from the spell is used up, 10 points per caster level. This means to me you have to do more than 10 points of damage to a creature to actually hurt it.
However, the other player argued that the DR 10/adamantine is applied first, then the absorption comes into effect, meaning you would have to do above 20 points of damage to a creature before harming it.
Any help would be greatly appreciated.
I think you are right. The sentence that reads, "It ignores the first 10 points of damage each time it takes damage from a weapon, though an adamantine weapon bypasses the reduction," is just there to explain what DR 10/adamantine means. It does not do 20 points of protection, just 10.
Yeah your running it right otherwise it way overpowered for its level.

Though I can see how it is supposed to read, the wording is a bit odd... And this is why..

Ok, unless you do more then 10 point the subject takes no Damage..

Well It is only taking damage after it gets through the DR, so then the reduction starts was how I read that... though the second part of that sentence confused that..

Well yeah, that is a given since it since the first sentence already says that...
So Even though I kept reading the second sentence as I said, the second part of that sentence made by brain go all screwy..
So yeah, I agree it should be read that once the DR reduces 10/per level it is done..
I think my brain would not have read it the first way if the sentence was not there, it basically just goes over a simplified explanation of DR, but I was reading it as an "also" not an explanation of the DR.
I think I would have realized that is was just a simplified explanation of DR if the sentence read as followed or something similar.

DR always eats up the first amount of damage that come after the "DR", of each attack.
The rest is passed on to the subject of the attack.
