Hiya, All.
I've been kicking around a build recently, starting at a lower level (likely 3). It would be for a PbP campaign, meaning leveling would be slow, and so I therefore place emphasis on a concept coming together at levels 3-5 rather than 7-10.
The idea is basically a synthesist/monk: I prefer synthesist for the extra HP, the synergy between the eidolon skins' natural armor bonuses and the monk's Wis-to-AC, and the possibility for self-buffing. Here's a rough outline of the first three levels:
Stats (20 PB):
Str: 10 (0)
Dex: 10 (0)
Con: 10 (0)
Int: 12 (2)
Wis: 19 (13)
Cha: 14 (5)
- Level 1: Synthesist 1
- Feats: Extra Evolution (level) & Weapon Focus (Claws) (human)
- Eidolon:
--- Biped: Str 18, Dex 12, Con 13
--- Evolutions: Improved Natural Armor (1), Ability Increase: Str (2), Bite (1)
- Level 2: Master of Many Styles of the Sacred Mountain 1
--- Feats: Dragon Style (class) & Improved Unarmed Strike (class)
- Level 3: Master of Many Styles of the Sacred Mountain 2
--- Feats: Feral Combat Training (level), Dragon Ferocity (class), Toughness (class)
Obviously, the basic idea is to have the Synthesist's natural attacks make up for the loss of FoB, and to focus on brute force in combat.
I'm basically just looking for feedback/ideas. I've considered taking some levels of Unarmed Fighter (to nab some more style feats), Brawler (from 4 to 6? The +1 attack/+3 damage is pretty wicked, and I could pick up a few goodies like Arcane Strike along the way), or possibly just shifting back between Synthesist and Monk.
Any thoughts? They'd sure be welcome.
PS - It's for a living world, meaning party make-up would constantly be changing, so that doesn't factor into my consideration of this build.

If you're doing dragon style quadruped is almost strictly better; dragon style + pounce is the big combo, as it eliminates the problem of friends blocking the charge lines.
Are you morally opposed to 7 for Dex / Str? If not, the character would be strictly better with those 8 points elsewhere (Int 14 / Char 16). More skills, better spells for, well, no loss.
Finally, extra evolution is not legal for Synth. You lack the ability "Summon Eidilon", "Fused Eidilon" is not the same thing.

Thanks for chiming in; I was beginning to think all I would get would be the crickets.
I can definitely see the debate between quadruped and biped: pounce is obviously awesome, and has fantastic synergy with dragon style, as you say. That said, I'm the kind of person that favors consistent abilities more than inconsistent ones, which is why the blanket +1 to attack and damage (the latter of which gets magnified by dragon style and dragon ferocity, making the difference between +5 damage and +8) catches my eye so. That said, dragon style opens the possibility of charging a lot more often, so maybe I shouldn't ignore that. This is one of the things I'd love to hear more opinions on.
While I'm not necessarily opposed to a greater min/maxing of the stats, I was leaving the physicals at 10 as a sort-of concession to the group I'd be playing with: there's a bit uneasiness about the synthesist at present, so I thought not going totally overboard would help assuage the existing concerns. Of course you're right that those points would be more functional elsewhere.
Finally, I'm pretty sure that the synthesist qualifies for Extra Evolution, since the listed prerequisite is "Eidolon class feature," not "Summon Eidolon."
Thanks for your thoughts.
