Greater Grapple and Rapid Grappler make it easier to escape?

Everyone knows that if you fail your check to maintain a grapple, the target gets away.

But what about additional grapple checks? With Greater Grapple, you could be making two grappled checks each round. With Rapid Grappler, you could have as many as three!

My question is this: Does failing this second or third grapple check allow the target to break free?

Nevermind. I think I found my answer.

From the Greater Grapple feat:

"You only need to succeed at one of these checks to maintain the grapple."

As long as you make one of the checks you're golden.

For Greater Grapple:

Greater Grapple (Combat)

Maintaining a grapple is second nature to you.

Prerequisites: Improved Grapple, Improved Unarmed Strike, base attack bonus +6, Dex 13.

Benefit: You receive a +2 bonus on checks made to grapple a foe. This bonus stacks with the bonus granted by Improved Grapple. Once you have grappled a creature, maintaining the grapple is a move action. This feat allows you to make two grapple checks each round (to move, harm, or pin your opponent), but you are not required to make two checks. You only need to succeed at one of these checks to maintain the grapple.

So for Greater Grappler, no. As long as you've succeed on one check, you maintain the grapple. And then...

You are a quick hand at grappling.

Prerequisites: Dex 13, Greater Grapple, Improved Grapple, Improved Unarmed Strike, base attack bonus +9 or monk level 9th.

Benefit: Whenever you use Greater Grapple to successfully maintain a grapple as a move action, you can then spend a swift action to make a grapple combat maneuver check.

This feat references Greater Grapple, which specifies that only one check is needed, and further notes that the grapple is already being maintained.

It's also worth noting that the additional checks you make in either case are not to maintain the grapple (the grapple has to be maintained first), but to perform other maneuvers during the grapple, such as pin.

And ninjaed like wow.

I don't remember that language ever being in Greater Grapple. Did they change it at some point?

So you would have to fail both of the first two checks in order for them to escape. What's more, you would not get a third grapple check from Rapid Grappler unless at least one of your earlier two checks succeeded.

That about right?

No, I think it's always been clear that you have two chances to succeed rather than two chances to fail.

I read Rapid Grappler as allowing the swift action check ONLY if the move action check succeeds.

But Greater Grapple allows you to still maintain if you fail the move and succeed the standard.
