Mendev, The Demon within, and Clydwell keep

Lost Omens Campaign Setting General Discussion

Dark Archive

I'm hoping to Base a Campaign around the Worldwound, and Clydwell keep.

Minor Spoilers ahead!

I have the 3.5 module, The Demon Within, and there is a a Note that states Clydwell keep is THE more important keep on the boarder of Mendev, However the Innersea world guide, Does not have the location of the Keep marked along the Border. Before I go and just Pick a Spot, is there any documentation/ Designer thoughts on where along the border it actually is.

Thoughts? Answers?

Thanks

The Demon Within was written before we had all of our metaphorical ducks in a row regarding the Worldwound, and there are some parts of that adventure that, if and when we do something else with the setting, are going to be revised. (The fact that we don't actually nail down the exact location of the keep in that adventure is one of many examples of how we could have done a better job at developing the region in that adventure.)

For now, go ahead and pick anywhere that makes sense for you—I'm not actually ready at this point to nail down a precise "official" location for it, alas. (Although feedback from fans of the adventure will certainly help!)

I think, based on the Info provided, I would place it on the Point of the little "bump" right above Kenabres and Valas's Gift. Maybe the "Bitter River" is the local Nickmane of the West Sellen River.

Although that feels like it crowds that area a little, but in a place like the world wound, it makes sense that most settlements would be close to the Keeps.

Edit: Also, thank you for the quick and Precise reply, Paizo Staff Rocks!

Was 'Clydwell Keep' a Gygaxian allusion to Clyde Caldwell? Sort of like Perrenland, Sunndi, or Idee?

Or am I reading to much into this stuff?

:)

I think that I get Perrenland (Steve Perren?), but what are the allusions in Sunndi and Idee?

Gary Gygax's daughters are named Cindy and Heidi.

There are several other 'easter eggs' like that in Oerthian nomenclature; Urnst for Ernest, Ulek for Luke, Drawmij for Jim Ward, and so on.

(If you already knew that- good for you, Greyhawk fan!)

My favorite is the name of the drow city: Erelhi-Cinlu.
