Want to make a reasonably optimized Samurai, need help.

Advice

Stats: Boost STR, CON, CHA, dump INT?

Race: I'm thinking human or nagaji, any other good choices?

Order: Warrior seems very good, Ronin seems... ok. Not sure about the others.

Feats: What to do here, standard fighter fare?

Thanks in advance for any help.

It looks like standard fighter fare only with the consideration that you are very hard to outright kill. Try very hard not to hang to close to the edge and make sure you're good buddies with the group healer. I'd consider half orc so that you could take the ferocity and deathless chain if your dm would allow them to affect unstoppable.

Looking for more input.

When I designed a Samurai, I took human, cause of
Heart of the Wilderness: Humans raised in the wild learn the hard way that only the strong survive. They gain a bonus equal to half their character level on Survival checks. They also gain a +5 bonus on Constitution checks to stabilize when dying and add half their character level to their Constitution score when determining the negative hit point total necessary to kill them. This racial trait replaces the skilled racial trait.

I also took Ronin.

The overall Idea was to create a samurai who would be near impossible to kill (at least impossible when compared to other characters)

Power attack, Furious Focus and the like are great feats.

But personally, I would never dump int. I'm not sure how strict your DM is, but personally, I hate when I'm the smart guy at the table, and I'm playing a dumb character, mean while our smart pc is being played by a relatively slower individual. (Like our wizard who thinks melee is the place for him to be before casting buffs like mage armor and sheild.)

Grand Lodge

Something I use for PFS

Human Samurai/1 (Order of the Dragon)
Languages, Common, Minkai, Tien

(20pt build)
Strength 17
Dexterity 14
Constitution 14
Intelligence 14
Wisdom 10
Charisma 8

The Int is for Combat manuevers and skills + I will multiclass him to Magus at level 2.

Trait: APG
Focused Mind: Your childhood was either dominated by lessons of some sort (whether musical, academic, or other) or by a horrible home life that encouraged your ability to block out distractions and focus on the immediate task at hand. You gain a +2 trait bonus on concentration checks.

Trait: Guide to Pathfinder Society Organized Play
Meridian Strike: Energy flows through channels in the body, like rivers through the land. Once per day when you roll damage on a successful critical hit, reroll any 1s and take the new roll (even if it is another 1).

Feat: Weapon Focus (Katana)
Feat: Toughness

Skills
Perception 1 (+4)
Survival 1 (+4)
Intimidate 1 (+3)
Sense Motive 1 (+4)
Diplomacy 1 (+3)
Ride 1 (+6)
Handle Animal 1 (+3)

Stats can be dropped... dropping to 12 Int and boosting Wis is NOT a bad idea, as your Will save is already challenged as a Samurai. Alternatively Int to 10 gives you 5 extra points... enough to take you to 16 Con.

Assuming you keep favoured class Samurai: Skills (not HPs) and are human, you'll have 6 skills a level - a good amount. I took order of the dragon because it grants access to perception and because their challenge is a good one that buffs the party against a single foe.

My traits are taken to get the most from him as a Magus and are not quite the best for a generic Samurai build.

Ronin seemed interesting, but the thing is that challenge effect? You'll never get to use it like... ever. That is a good combo though, HotW and Ronin.

What are some of the better orders for Cavaliers/Samurai?

Actually you might be able to, cause it says "Similar abilities"

Quote:
Whenever a ronin is the target of a challenge, a smite, a quarry, or similar effect, and he issues a challenge against that character in return

Would Judgments count? How about many Hexes? Mind you of course, you can still Challenge people and do damage to them.

Personally though, I'd go with Cockatrice or Ronin. With ronin, while the challenge bonus may not happen often, Something that happens really often is Will saves. Being able to roll, not once, not twice, but up to four times for many things that require will saves is very nice. (two uses of resolve for each save roll.)

I dunno, can we get the dinosaur in here to clear this up?
