Telling the difference between 3.5 and 3.0?

Product Discussion

It's that time of week again, dumb question time from Guang :)

I have a bunch of old 3.5/3.0 books that I'm ready to sift through and see which ones I want to combine with my Pathfinder stuff. Do all the old 3.5 d&d books have the 3.5 symbol thing on the back, or just some of them? Anything without that symbol from then is 3.0?

Thanks.

The nomenclature can be erratic. Here is what I suggest:

1. 3.5 was published in June 2003, so anything before this by WoTC is 3.0.
2. On the credits page of the book it will usually say something like "Based on the 3.5 version..."
3. Take a look at some of the stat blocks in the book. If you see skills named: Intuit Direction, Innuendo, Animal Handling, or Wilderness Lore it is 3.0. If it has Survival or Perform (type) it is 3.5. If it has Fly or Perception it is Pathfinder.

Thanks!

It seems that they didn't re-write 3.0 stuff for 3.5, they just continued on.....is it worth trying to convert 3.0 stuff to pathfinder, or should I stick to 3.5?

Use the 3.5 Pathfinder is based with 3.5 and convert your 3.0 over. Converting wont be hard or time consuming at all. I converted my 3.0 to 3.5 and still do. So have fun.

Glad to hear its fairly painless. I guess I'm kind of looking to use PFRPG character creation, and then see about putting them in a dnd 3.5 or 3.0 adventure. Where can I find the conversion for 3.0 to 3.5? (I have the 3.5 to PFRPG document)

Not sure if there is PFRPG for 3.0, but being DnD 3.5 and 3.0 are similar you could look for monster stats terrian ect. in 3.0 and match or come close in 3.5 and run with it.

1 person marked this as a favorite.

I think the conversion guides for 3.0 to 3.5 is still floating around on WOTC's site. And here is is. I was at the top of the search list on Google.

Oh wow. Lots of goodies. Thanks muchly. My google-fu only works when I kind of already know what I'm looking for. Would these files work for updating 3.0 adventures as well?

I would guess they would, but I have never tried it.

A lot of 3.0 stuff was from 3.5. A lot of prestige classes, and spells as an example.

As for updating 3.0 monsters I would just use the pathfinder versions if you can get them. 3.0 had crazy DR. An example is DR 20/+3, which meant you need a +3 weapon or better to bypass it.
You can probably update many of the monsters from 3.0 straight to pathfinder though with a few tweaks.
