Rogue (Swashbuckler) Clarification, please....

In the text for the Rogue (Swashbuckler) in the Advanced Player Guide, it says for first level:

"In addition, she may take the combat trick rogue talent up to two times. This ability replace trapfinding."

Just to clarify, is this saying that at first level a rogue swashbuckler character is trading out the trapfinding feature for two combat feats?

That's my reading, but seems a little bit of an undersell on feats that a class feature is considered equivalent to two of them.

The whole thing says:

They don't get two feats. They get the ability to effectively swap out two Rogue Talents for a combat feat whie most Rogues can only do this once.

Nope, that's not how it works.

See, normally, you can only take any give rogue talent once over the life of the character. The swashbuckler ups that limit to twice instead of once (for Combat Trick). It doesn't give them to you right away.

The entire ability that replaces trapfinding is martial proficiency in a weapon of the swashbuckler's choice AND the ability to take Combat Trick twice.

If I am reading it properly, you don't automatically get two combat feats (that would be ridiculously powerful).

It just means when you get a level in rogue that allows you a rogue talent, you can ultimately take Combat Trick up to two times (at two separate levels of gaining a rogue trick) if you choose.

So it's not giving you the equivalent of two feats (three, technically, with the martial weapon proficiency). It's giving you sort of a feat (martial weapon proficiency) and more choice with a class ability you otherwise already have.
