Rules Questions

Morning guys and gals, I've got a question re: abilities of the witches familiar "Thrush". The rulebook states that it can speak the language of it's master due to supernatural methods, but does it mean that it can do so from level 1? I want to run my character almost like that dude from Pirates of the Caribbean who has the parrot.

Yes, the thrush's special ability to speak a language is available from the time that you get it, as is the raven's (wizard familiar table).

Yes, from level 1.

Note however that at level 1, your Thrush will have an INT of 6, which suggests that either:

A) It can understand pretty well but can only speak short simple phrases, rather like a 2 or 3 year old;

OR

B) It speaks fluidly, but chatters incessantly without understanding much at all.

Naturally in both cases the bird's speech will become more fluid as its intelligence increases with your level.

And it's still helpful at level 1. It doesn't take much brains to shout "There's an orc behind you!" or similar warnings, and it can carry messages like "Boss fell down the well and broke her leg."

^^ I thought so, but Im kind of a pathfinder nubbins so I wasn't going to push it..I think I'll ask our DM before we start next game...If he's not keen then Im gonna leave it for a level or two

Two or three year old child is a lot more limited than an INT 6. Chimps are as smart as 5-6 year old children, and they're still technically INT 2.
