I've never really run it like this, but are ioun stones vulnerable to AOE things like fireballs and such? It doesn't say in the description that they aren't so I guess I can assume they would explode having only 10 hitpoints and 5 hardness.

They're attended objects while they orbit your head.

To expand on this, attended objects only suffer aoe damage if you roll a natural 1 on your save, and use your saves if targeted directly. Enemies that aren't stupid, though, won't want to destroy your stuff any more than you want to destroy their stuff. Loot is awesome.

They are treated like all other items you have/wear/hold - they can't be damaged by AoEs unless the character rolls a natural 1 on his reflex save.

I certainly don't do so, and agree that it is a waste of time. However, it is in the rules, so in the Rules Question forums, I answer with those in mind ;)

Yeah I've never bothered with that myself, I've usually got a lot on my plate already, such as the players DOOOOOOOOOOOMMM!
