Weapon Focus & Point Blank Shot

I don't feel these two should be allowed to work together. I don't think Weapon Focus should work with Ranged weapons because of Point Blank Shot.

A Full BAB Fighter gets Weapon Focus and his +1 BAB.

A Full BAB Archer gets Weapon Focus, his +1 BAB AND Point Blank??

Plus the Archer gets to stay 30 feet from the combat while the Fighter has to stand toe-to-toe in melee.

Anything I'm missing?

Fighters can also get bonuses that the archer doesn't, like that +2 flanking bonus, not having to spend another feat to attack the same person as their friends without a -4 penalty, and so forth.

Liberty's Edge

If you're worried about a measly +1 attack bonus, you should probably cut out Spell Focus and Greater Spell Focus too, because spellcasters can attack from a distance and affect a battle much more with just that one standard action. Plus there are loads of ways to get tiny attack bonuses like this--flanking, charge, higher ground, spells and abilities like inspire courage, etc.

The archer has to stay within 30 feet though, and that's charging distance even for a gnome, right?

I think the two should stack for the sake of a measly +1 to attack roll with that specific weapon, it's not a deal breaker. (okay, game, whatever...)

Didn't even realize i had read your post, but I used exactly the same vocab; point being: measly, right?

If that's what you considered overpowered you're going to have to revise a lot of things.

So, the Archer after first round (when everyone is engaged in combat)

with no feats takes a -4 to hit. the standard fighter takes +0.

With 1 feat invested (point blank) the archer takes -3. The standard fighter takes +1 for weapon focus

With 2 feats invested (precise) the archer takes +1. The standard fighter also takes +1, but likely has picked up power attack or something else that's nice and helpful. Lets say power attack. its a staple after all, so he gets +3 damage, but is at a +0 to hit again

With 3 feats invested (weapon focus) the archer takes +2. The standard fighter invests in say...furious focus. He's back up to +1 again, and now has 3 more damage than the archer, but 1 less tohit.

Seems reasonable for the same resources invested to me.

Hmmm....

Okay, Skip Williams is a good game designer.
