Jump and odd Speeds (15', 25', 35', etc)

Rules Questions

The rules state round down unless otherwise specified.

Acrobatics excerpt: Creatures with a base land speed above 30 feet receive a +4 racial bonus on Acrobatics checks made to jump for every 10 feet of their speed above 30 feet. Creatures with a base land speed below 30 feet receive a –4 racial bonus on Acrobatics checks made to jump for every 10 feet of their speed below 30 feet.

The way it's written, it's obvious that if your speed is 35 feet, that you'd round the bonus down ("for every 10 feet ABOVE 30 feet.")

However, it also seems that "for every 10 feet BELOW 30 feet" would indicate that you'd still round down, like this:

Speed 40 = +4
Speed 35 = +0
Speed 30 = +0
Speed 25 = +0
Speed 20 = -4
Speed 15 = -4

Or would a better interpretation be to round the Speed down to the nearest increment of 10 ft.?

In that case:

Speed 40 = +4
Speed 35 = +0
Speed 30 = +0
Speed 25 = -4
Speed 20 = -4
Speed 15 = -8

Which is correct?

The rules say for every 10 feet. That means only 10-foot increments count, IMO. Thus, a base speed of 25 feet imposes no penalty, and a base speed of 35 feet grants no bonus.

"For every 10 feet above 30" and "for every 10 feet below 30" means:

Speed 0 = -12, but it doesn't matter because you can't move anyway
Speed 1-10 = -8
Speed 11-20= -4
Speed 21-39= +0
Speed 40-49= +4
Speed 50-59= +8
Speed 60-69= +12
etc., etc.

Thanks folks!

That's the way I interpreted it!

Personally, I think that Paizo might want to consider changing the modifiers to this:

"For every 5 feet above 30 feet, you get a +2 bonus. For every 5 feet below 30 feet, you get a -2 penalty."

Seeing as how all movement must be in 5 ft. increments, this minor change to the rules would eliminate any confusion.
