I'm starting a new campaign in a few weeks and I wanted to introduce a custom race and wanted to know what other's thought. I used the rules from the ARG playtest. Any thoughts/suggestions are welcome.
• Starting Age: 12 + [1d4 Barb Rogue Sorcerer, 1d6 Bard Fighter Ranger, 2d4 Cleric Druid Oracle Witch Wizard]
• Height and Weight: Male- 4’6” +2d6, 120lbs + 2d8x5, Female- 4’2” +1d10, 100lbs + 2d6x5
Reptilians are the most non-human of the civilized peoples. They have a scaly, bumpy hide, a tail that is reaches almost to the floor. Their eyes tend to have yellow to deep orange eye color with vertical pupils. Finally their mouth is dominated by sharp razor like teeth. They are generally shorter than humans, averaging 5’ for males and 4’7” for females.
Reptilians tend toward Neutral alignments, their social structure tends to deemphasize extremes and push them toward more parochial matters. Their religion is usually ancestor worship, but the church of Virgo and Taurus tend to appeal to them.
Reptilians enjoy a relatively friendly relationship with the other civilized races. They tend to be as acceptable as a dwarf or Halfling in most areas. More isolated locations will obviously have less tolerance for outsiders, regardless of their race. Dwarves respect the Reptilians for their hard work and hardy physique. Elves look down on Reptilians as barbaric and uncivilized brutes. Reptilian society tends toward clannishness. Even in larger cities they tend to identify themselves by clan first and by nation second. They have a strong deference toward the elderly, viewing them with reverence and respect for their years of collected wisdom.
Reptilians adventurer for many reasons, just as with other races. Maybe they have been driven from their clan because of misdeed, or they have run from the High Elf Realm and are looking to find their place in the world, or they are doing just for the money. Because their society is less well organized than others, they tend away from wizard or cleric, preferring sorcerer or oracle for spell casting. Barbarian or ranger are common choices for melee fighters.
