Joe Simon, co-creator of Captain America passed away Thursay. He and Jack "King" Kirby created Cap over a year before the US entered WWII.
The first issue showed him punching Adolf Hitler.
The article doesn't say, but I wonder what he thought of the movie.

And yet another hand, albeit unknowning of it's power, that guided me through much of my youth has left this world. Be well Mr. Simon, you have earned the rest, and I Thank You for the many nights spent chasing bank robbers and spandex clad super villains around my neighborhood, carrying the lid to my trash can in one arm, while throwing haymakers with the other. Your creation gave birth to one of the greatest hero's of our modern literature, I can only hope he brought you as much joy as he brought us.
