Do the Cliffborn and Unseen variant lizardfolk lose their hold breath ability? I understand they lose their swim speed, but it is unclear about losing the ability to hold their breath longer.

Grand Lodge

Truly shameless bump.

Grand Lodge

Someone has to have an opinion on this.

Is this stuff from the ARG?

They're from Classic Monsters Revisited. And since they are technically evolved into living in different environs, then it can be safely assumed that they do lose Hold Breath unless you can explain with some level of logic why they should still have it.

Grand Lodge

Well, the bestiary mentions variant lizardfolk with a climb speed instead of a swim speed, but fail as well to mention if they retain hold breath.

Hold Breath was sort of related to the Swim Speed. Like I said, unless you have a logical explanation for the extra room in their lungs, the Climbing Lizardfolk do NOT have Hold Breath.

Grand Lodge

High altitudes maybe? I am not disagreeing, but I wonder if it was oversight.

If they are indeed high up in the mountains, then I could see that as a viable option. I think you should discuss with the DM, but don't try to sound like a munchkin about it because this could be taken either as an RP thing or a cheap attempt at getting off with an extra racial bonus...

Grand Lodge

My DM has actually given pretty loose race restrictions, but low point buy. I cannot even think of time in the future when I would use it, but I am just wondering if I would have or not, and the reason behind it. I am a damn curious person.

The elitism of 15 point buy users on another thread made me feel sick. I can for once be proud about not really caring about the system that the DM uses, since I've had rolling, 15 point buy (kinda found it annoying in the long run for various reasons) and 20 point buy (played a Paladin so it was for the better). So far, I've liked rolling the most, and so have most people I've played with.

Anyway, yeah. Mountain lizardfolk and swamp-dwelling ones should have Hold Breath, the camouflage ones probably shouldn't.

Grand Lodge

This is actually my first low point buy game. I prefer to "roll" with the punches myself. I think I will go with the camouflage one, +10 stealth seems to be worth losing two abilities.
