I want to make a kukri that can, several times per day, increase it's size and damage but not it's weight, effectively working like a sun blade but without the additional special effects.
Statistically, the Collision property (from the Magic Item Compendium) more than meets this requirement, but is an expensive +2 enhancement which can't be turned off and lacks the flavor I'm seeking.
The spell Lead Blades (Ranger 1) accomplishes this almost perfectly (minus the actual size increase, though that could be a thematic add-on), though I would like to have the option to sacrifice duration to increase the effective size (& thus damage).
The other options I see would be to use an effect similar to the Flame Blade (Druid 2) spell or the Ice Axe spell (Cleric 3, Spell Compendium), which would take away the strength bonus from the attacks and make attacks with the weapon touch attacks (nice touch, but not sure about the thematics).
I'm specifically looking to have 2-3 uses per day (about 10-20 rounds, though I won't complain if it's longer), a thematic increase in weapon size with the option of making the kukri into a scimitar or falchion for damage purposes, but still as light as a kukri for the purposes of wielding it (the character has Weapon Focus (kukri)). I also wouldn't mind the option to sacrifice spells to gain additional uses/enhanced effect, as the character in question does have a small number but they aren't the focus of his build.
What is the most cost effective way to obtain these qualities?

What about making it only usable several times per day? This is an effect he would only pull out in dire circumstances, so I like the idea of rounds/day. Additional uses/rounds maybe gained at the cost of sacrificing a spell slot. This gives it a grittier feel, which is what I'm looking for. I just can't figure out the cost adjustment.
Would I calculate it as a command word item with the charge/day modification? Edit: And since it is charged, would I also use the charged(50 charges) modification, or not since it never actually runs out of charges (just becomes unusable for that day)?
And what about the adjustment for the ability to sacrifice spell slots?

most of what you are looking for isn't in the pricing guidelines and would require asking your DM to create special rules.
it would be command word with charge per day modification.
those 2 single minute uses can be broken up into 20 rounds per day if you wish for no change in price.
but i like the continuous option better. requires less fiddling with the rules.

Check out the sizing weapon property in magic item compendium.
I had actually noticed that one, but it also affects who can wield the weapon.
A large kukri is mechanically the same as a scimitar, but imposes a -2 penalty to wield due to being inappropriately sized. That weapon quality does not change the proportions of the weapon, just the size. It's still a Kukri, but now it's got a big handle meant for a giant, not a medium creature.
Even if my DM allowed me to use it as a scimitar (which I wouldn't doubt, as our group is fairly lenient), I still probably wouldn't be able to take advantage of my Weapon Focus (kukri) feat or the other feats my character has based on wielding a kukri.

Thanks. I hadn't thought about splitting the rounds, but I like that idea. I still have to pass this by my DM, but as I said, we're a pretty lenient group and I doubt that should be a problem.
