How to seep and ooze...

Rules Questions

Shadow Lodge

So, I was looking through a number of oozes, and started thinking, what's the power that allows them to, you know, ooze? Can they secrete themselves through a crack in the wall? Oozes aren't given the Compression power by themselves, but they are described as being able to squeeze through cracks.

How about elementals? Can they seep? Air, Fire, and Water would all seem to be good candidates for that.

And... how can a PC become able to flow through a crevice?

Odd as it sounds elementals are solid and have bodies. Those bodies just happed to be composed of their respectrive element. Earth elementals solidity is obvious enough, the rest of them, not so much.

They're creatures of magic. Just roll with it.

Get RAGELANCEPOUNCE'D by AMBARBARIAN?

I'd have to agree with Coffee Golem on the elementals. Unless the DM house rules otherwise (a nasty turn for the players), they wouldn't be able to squeeze through cracks, as they have defined bodies (if not defined anatomy).

Oozes on the other hand are amorphous. Their body must remain contiguous, but other than that their shape is pretty much mutable and they have no discernible anatomy. I would say it is probably this quality which allows them to squeeze thorough cracks.

As for giving this ability to a PC, the easiest way is via a spell such as Gaseous Form or Amorphous Body (from the Spell Compendium, if your DM allows that source).
