Kingdom Building

Kingmaker

Hey guys,

I'm running a group through Rivers Run Red and it looks like I might be missing something. They build the capital city at the Stag Lord fort, built a castle. Next month they expanded and built a farm and a mill. They've been averaging about 30 on their economy checks so about (6 BP income per turn) but their consumption was 9 the second month and then still 9 the third month. What this looks like is that their kingdom is losing BP every month. I just wanted some advice in case I missed something. It seems that buildings are extremely expensive given their BP cost and giving a +1 or at most a +2 to economy.

Help?

Thanks!

My guess is that I'm reading the consumption correctly. Size is number of hexes, cities is number of city districts used (i.e. castle counts as 4). The other difficulty I'm having is that the additional rules say that a mine is only worth +1 economy, which seems like a small amount given that it costs 6 BP to build a mine. Even with the additional +1 to economy for building it on the site that has precious materials that would make it at most a +2 which doesn't seem like it's worth the cost to build the mine.

Build farms to reduce consumption. Each farm costs 2 bp (in a grasslands hex), and reduces consumption by 2; they pay for themselves in the first month.

Your consumption is 1 per hex + 1 per city district. A district is not a block of squares (your castle does not count as 4). A district is the 16 squares on the city page. So assuming you have 1 district, and 4 hexes your consumption would be 5. You only need 3 farms to reduce your consumption to 0.

Jeez. I am just happy, that new threats with the same title do not overwrite older ones anymore...

Next time do a search to check if something similar does exist already!
For your reference the all-encompassing threat dealing with "How do build a kingdom and then some" can be found by clicking here.

Ruyan.

Thank you, that's what I needed to know. By 16, I'm assuming you mean the 9 squares divided into 4 on the city handout. I hoped something was wrong on my end.
