I know it's considered a relatively minor issue but I would love to see player housing or at the very least guild halls. After all I need a place for my dragon's head trophy and all the spell books I'm not currently using. ;)
Well considering they are more or less talking about flat out city building, I wouldn't consider that possibility unlikely.

I played UO for three years and It had player housing. It was every where but still. I would love to see this, Have an apartment or something. FF11 had something like this. You had a place in the city and when you entered it, it was instanced so you had a small little apartment. I too would like to see player housing.

I'd be interested in learning about how player housing would be run outside of a player-built settlement.
Say you wanted to have a house in a city that's protected by NPCs so some jerkass can't come and steal your s&~% while you're logged out. Would you have to pay rent? Is it possible you could just buy the house you're living in so you don't have to worry about rent?

I loved player housing in SWG. Plop down a house anywhere away from existing structures and quest locations and you were good to go. Always liked running my shop, having a place where people could come visit and get custom items made, etc.
If we could have similar flexible, safe player housing in PFO it would be great, but it doesn't mesh well with the PVP everywhere theme. :(

I'd like to see housing be safe as part of a town. So, as long as the town stays in the same hands and is safe, all the houses in it are safe. If you build off in the wilderness, that's on you.
It makes houses not-really-permanent (important so you don't run out of room) while also providing the option for safety. It also really puts a lot of focus on communities and the defense of communities, giving everyone a reason to band together.
Cheers!

I've only seen a promotional video of it, and its probably instanced and therefore instantly less cool, but the creativity levels available to the new housing system in Rift looks amazing.
Detailed complex creation tools would be something that every MMO should aspire to. (Which of course is way easier said than done, but hey PFO is trying to break the mold in every other sense so why not this one too! ;)

This. Some settlements may be planned out and organised by several chartered companies, while others may spring up organically out of necessity. It'd still be cool to build a fortress out in the badlands, but much riskier.

Heres a thought. In kingmaker the is a system where a new settlement is based on a nine by nine grid. You could easily implement this in a mmo. you would have to re-do the build point system but i think settlements would do well with a plathora of buildings they could choose from to be in the community and players could quote on quote live in these buildins qand give bonuses to productions. alchemist lives in a brewery or a animal trainer lives and works in the stables and so forth.

I think the question is of personal housing, a place for each player to keep their stuff and maybe even decorate.
Could make "apartments" and such that going into takes you to a personalized instance as your home to keep stuff. And could include different types that have different upkeep costs that go to the town. Thus there could be a castle with 6 rooms inside but it has a high upkeep cost compared to a two room cottage.
