Factions and Guilds

Golarion already has a well fleshed-out collection of factions mostly due to the PFS. So should in-game guilds be replaced by those factions for players to find like-minded people to group with, should the game use traditional guilds, or maybe a combination of both?

Thoughts?

I would like to see a combination of both. Maybe even events for both. Say a player controlled guild that would likely own a city, made up of greatly varying players of all classes/types, but also a more crafting focused character may also be a member of say the sweet-talkers etc... Or a stealth/theiving faction that runs occasional events to accomplish missions entirely undetected. I would say the player controlled guilds should have transparent membership, the latter should have secrete membership (the players themselves should know who is in what, but people outside of that group would have no idea).

Even more interesting would be if the NPC factions eventually elected player leaders.

Haha, I totally went on at length about this very issue in this thread here.

Should've noticed this thread first... -_-

Is there a way to merge threads?

I like your comment about putting guilds within factions - that's an interesting idea. Call it whatever you want, but some sort of player-owned subgroup that's affiliated with an established faction just resounds nicely with me.

If there is a way to merge threads, I sure as heck don't know it.

If I were to have my way, I probably wouldn't have player-owned guilds at all, but I know that a lot of MMO gamers want that and the games thrive because of that element, so it would no doubt need to be in there. The execution is what ultimately matters most. Besides, an adventuring party (even if they're all members of the larger Pathfinder Society or what have you) is very much the same thing as a player-guild in many respects.

I like guilds, I just wish that they were more player friendly, Like have certain players (or all) be able to acquire other members. So the guild Master doesn't have to sign other people up, he can have his under lings do it too. Also Alliances would be great, Have one guild then have many smaller alliances.

Most MMOs feature a series of permissions settings for guilds that allow certain members a greater level of control over guild functions than others, including the ability to invite new players to the guild. The guild master can delegate these responsibilities.

Couldn't factions exist with separate guilds making up the body of each faction?
