So the campaign I am in currently is getting ready to wrap up, and thoughts of my next PC are creeping into my mind. So far one member of my group is going a ride focused Goblin Summoner build, and I figured it would be a good time to try a PrC.
I am still looking for that special story hook to work it though. Any thoughts? Suggestions? Builds?
What level will you be? Were you planning on being a Paladin or a Cleric to get into the PrC?
My thoughts were to start out as a cleric and we will be starting at first level.
I haven't actually played any of these classes, I'm going theoretically here:
My thoughts are that Holy Vindicator needs 5 ranks of Knowledge: Religion. While that's certainly a useful skill anyway, it'd probably be better to have a decent Int to have more skill points, because 2 per level only gives you 14 over the space of the 7 levels needed to get your BAB high enough as a Cleric. That's almost half of your total skill points just for that, though you could also use favored class to get more skills.
Clerics are already MAD even if they can dump Int, and even moreso if they can't. Would it be better to be a Cleric or a Paladin? Paladins have all of their class features run on Cha, while Clerics need Wis too.
Paladins can also qualify for the PrC sooner, but needless to say their channeling abilities are awful. I dunno. :P
Go cleric 8 (For the awesome domain power at 8th level, Aura of Heroism is my favorite, it's a swift action and glory adds to channel dc)
Going with just about any cleric is cool, but spend a feat on Exotic Weapon Prof: Falcata. It can be 2handed, has a good crit range and the extra crit modifier adds to your divine wrath ability.
Be channel focused and take alignment channel (if you are good), and quicken channel. With a phalactry of channel, you can cast a spell, drop 12d6 heal or harm (evil outsiders and Undead). Also look at Alt channel Bravery/Valour.

1 - you might go with an inquisitor with the channel ability. Straight forward build and simply nasty
2 - go ranger 4 / cleric 1 / HV x. Choose the sword & board fighting style.3 - fighter 4 / cleric 1 can be good, or barbarian [urban] 4 / cleric 1
4 - paladin is always cool to enter
5 - oracle of healing (is the one with channel I believe), then HV
6 - go with a fighter build focused on using shield and shield bashes as his only weapon, maybe with unarmed strike in addition, then cleric, then HV
7 - pure cleric is always cool, but then mentioned above until 8 for abilities
