I am aware that a full build has not been written up, and that AM and BAT are conceptual elements of a potential build. But could anyone in-the-know be so kind as a tell me what AM and BAT stand for/how they conceptually work?

AM BARBARIAN is an alias of Trinam. First showed up in the Caster-Martial Disparity thread (posted by Evil Lincoln). It's not an acronym, just the 'in character' way of speaking that Trinam uses for that persona.
I'm not sure what you mean by BAT barbarian, unless you are referring to the "bat" that AM BARBARIAN is mounted on. Depending upon who is attempting to find a way to defeat AM BARBARIAN, the 'batty bat' is either a dire mount or a synthesist summoner cohort who took the 'mount' evolution.
Long story short, AM BARBARIAN uses his RAGELANCEPOUNCE and a few select rage powers (Superstition, Strength Surge, Beast Totem, and especially Spell Sunder, plus others) to violate spellcasters meant to challenge him.
'Batty bat' is just his flying mount, who has the added bonus of being a speed/perception beast who can help AM BARBARIAN spot his foes, and, possibly, detect invisible ones to set up the ride-by-attack charge of doom.
I would go find the links to the two main relevant threads (caster-martial disparity battleground (no crying, please)) and (AM BARBARIAN build), but I'm lazy/in a hurry.
