It seems Pathfinder has changed some rules on this subject. From reading the rules on reach, you use the ranged rules for considering cover for attacks of opportunity on squares beyond the first square. Soft cover provides cover for ranged attacks; Therefore, a person can move around a monsters reach if he has someone in front of him providing cover.
The adjacent squares use different rules in regard to a creatures reach and soft cover. You use melee attacks in the adjacent squares whether a creature has reach or not. Soft cover does not provide cover for melee attacks; Hence, a person moving in a creatures adjacent squares do provide attacks of opportunity when a person is moving through them, moving through another persons square or not.
I used the subject in the search engine and didn't find anything on this subject. I believe Pathfinder changed the rules on free attacks in squares beyond the first square in regard to reach since 3.5. Is this correct?

What you described is correct. In 3.5, it tended to be a confused mess with variance from play group to play group. If I remember correctly, there was errata that featured in this discussion, and that may have made it into late printings of the PHB. It doesn't help that the rules on the matter are sort of indirect.
