Coach and Horses

I rather like the idea of my PCs travelling though Ustalav using Coach and Horses. It fits the mood, IMVHO.

Anyone know how fast these things could travel, and how many miles they might typically cover in 1 day?

Cheers

4-7 mph

I think it would be a good idea too given the road trip quality of the AP.

Look to Tim Burton's Sleepy Hollow or any of Hammer Horror's Dracula films for visuals. They have a dark, cramped feel that really adds to that sense of horror.

I wouldn't recommend the Old West-style Wells Fargo coach. Too open with too many windows. Too nice.

And remember, after pulling a coach all day horses will snort and steam. It's a very powerful visual when done right.

There is a classic picture in the first Ravenloft module of a coach with black horses running towards Strahd's castle (it'll be copyright, so I wont be able to post a link up here unfortunately).

My campaigns always last a lot longer than the normal AP progression, so my PCs will be travelling from Karkau (they're pathfinders, so they're in the middle of The Darkest Vengeance at present) to Ravengro on coach and horses with a couple of stop-overs along the line (for Splinters of Faith pt 1 and a relocated (retired) Pathfinder scenario called Blood at Dralkard Manor).

It seems to me a journey of about 200 miles, which might be pushing it with only two stop overs but I'm not sure.
