So... My players have (accidentally) set pretty much the entire Licktoad village on fire. (They got rather careless with fireworks, as did the goblins, and certain 10-ft bursts landed in juuuust the right spots).
I was wondering how likely, if at all, it is that this would spread out to the surrounding terrain.
I know that this is a swamp rather than a forest, so it would certainly be less feasible, but they've got a preeeeeetty big fire going here.
I'm considering saying "what the heck" and burning down the majority of the big "island" that the Licktoad village is situated on.
I figure it won't really affect whether or not they find anything in the adventure (they've already seen the Kaijitsu Star) and the players are likely to fondly talk about "hey remember that time we burned down 20 percent of the swamp" for a long time.
Plus the townspeople would likely heap blame on the goblins. These PCs are the types to own up to their mistakes, but I imagine the townspeople would just see that as them being noble and blame the goblins anyways.
Any thoughts on whether I'm being insane, have had a good idea, or both?

Given that the adventure quickly moves out of the region, I don't think it matters much gameplay-wise how you handle it. So, I'd handle it in whatever way your players will most enjoy. Are they pyros who would get a kick out of it, or are they serious folks who would feel it was a failure on their part?

A peat fire (which is what you would see in a swamp fire) is not so much fire as it is smoke. Well there is fire, as the trees and ground cover burns, but when the peat catches, it burns deep (like up to 5 or 6 feet deep into the peat) and kicks out lots of smoke.
You can look up the Great Dismal Swamp fire in NC which was still burning as of October (it had been going on on for more than 2 months at that point ... had a hurricane and tropical storm dump lots of rain and still kept burning ... may still be burning, I haven't checked recently).

I didn't know of the difference (Not from a very swampy area).
I'll have to do some research into peat fires before the next game. Thanks.
