Teddy was a true progressive and would have put this best minds in the government to work. Tesla was too involved feuding with Edison and Westinghouse to be an effective fighter or techno-wizard. His ideas, as they were, were oddball and rubbed against the grain of zeitgeist of the time.

Besides Teddy through a good right hook from what I recall.
