Adamantine Shields

I was wondering what good an adamantine shield would be, since it wouldn't grant DR and it's -1 to armor check penalty comes from it being masterwork.

Then it hit me. Do adamantine shields bypass hardness when used to perform a shield bash?

They should IMO, but the only creatures with hardness are inanimate objects.

Adamantine shield would be harder to sunder though.

I believe this question was asked back in the days of 3.0 and I thought someone from WotC responded in a forum claiming the very thing I've said above. I can't remember for certain however, and I had completely forgotten about it until a second ago.

Let's not forget creatures with DR/adamantine

I didn't but I did not want to assume he meant both when he only mentioned hardness.

i think the thing that all the cool kids are doing is getting a mithril shield with adamantine spikes

A shield is stated as being a weapon within the weapon section. If an adamantine dagger does it, so should a shield.
