How do Eidolons heal ability damage?

Rules Questions

Does it all just come back when they are banished and re-summoned?

Also, if an Eidolon has a disease, does he still have it when he is banished and re-summoned?

Does he have to make fort saves even when he's not summoned?

Thoughts?

Title question: I believe it can ONLY be healed with spells.

1. No.
2. Yes, he keeps the disease.
3. I think so, yes, but not sure.

Because the description of the Eidolon only mentions HPs, not ability damage. Especially since a Summoner cannot heal ability damage (no lesser restoration or summoner equivalent on his spell list). So an Eidolon with ability damage keeps it until the summoner can find a third party to heal it (because they don't heal normally)?

A summoner should be able to take care of his Eidolon without any assistance from anyone else.

Restore Eidolon

Restore Eidolon

So if it dies from con loss, does it stay dead forever or come back with half con?

In that case, if this happens to a 1st level summoner's eidolon does that mean the damage remains until the Summoner reaches 4th level and can cast Restore Eidolon lesser?

What if a stat reaches 0 but doesn't kill the Eidolon? Does that mean the Eidolon is useless until the Summoner reaches 4th?

Liberty's Edge

On the subject of an eidolon dead from Con loss...I'm pretty sure that it would count as the eidolon dying, which means it would come back the next day at half hit points (and, in this case, full Con again). Also keep in mind the difference between ability damage and ability drain. If your 1st-level Summoner is fighting monsters with ability drain, your GM's doing it wrong.

Ultimate Magic FAQ

"Remember also that the eidolon does not heal naturally. Just like hit point damage, any ability damage or drain the eidolon has persists between when it is banished/dismissed/killed and when it is resummoned. The exception is an eidolon killed by Con damage (which, if resummoned, would still be at 0 Con and immediately die and vanish); in this situation, the resummoned eidolon is cured of 1 point of ability damage or drain so the amount of damage or drain is 1 less than its actual Constitution score, allowing it to live."

From our side, we houseruled that the eidolon was regenerating his abilities damage with the summoner. Which means when the summoner have a complete rest, the eidolon can heal his ability damages as a normal character would. Simple matter of playability.

Aha! That was what I was looking for. I just looked for it in the APG, not the UM.

Thanks.

As per FAQ, it comes back with 1 con

Pretty much, unless you pay out for scrolls etc. Hopefully you won't be facing too much ability drain at level 1.

Unless you buy scrolls or find someone to cast restore, your pretty much stuck relying on your summon monster ability.

A better tactic would be to dismiss your eidolon and immediately begin using your monster summoning ability as soon as you realize your facing monsters with ability drain. It's better to never have it take the ability damage in the first place.
