How did my character end up like this? (Spoilers for Crown of the Kobold King)

Gamer Life General Discussion

Has any one besides me ever had a character morph into something that you as the player didn't intend for them to become?

Using storyline and role play I currently have a druid that is quickly becoming a business tycoon. We are playing Hollows Last Hope series as a pick-up game with only two players. The setting is in the Forgotten Realms in the area beside the silver marches literally just north of The High Forest and Turlangs woods. I play a druid of Silvanus since that area is very heavy for his worship the other player is a githzeri monk of selune with a vow of poverty.

After completing Hollows Last Hope and The Crown of the Kobold King. I find myself running a mining operation, several farms and a quarry. I have also bought up the rights to the land around the elder tree in a 20 mile radius to stop the lumber consortium from going any further and naturally I own the land for 20 miles around the iron mine after all dead kobolds don't need it any more.

The monk died at the end of the last adventure so all the treasure was mine to do with as I saw fit. That's how I afforded all my businesses.

All my decisions make sense as far as a druid goes, he wanted to stop the lumbering of the woods but in a way that still provided for the people a way to make a living. I created farms, reopened a mine and pay wages 50% above and beyond norm and still make roughly 1K profit every month. The quarry is used for building to reduce the need for wood in home building so no real profit there.

My question is this has anybody else ever had a character morph this way? You start out as A but through the course of the adventure you become something you never intended.

Yes i think that in some games this unexpected decisions leads to places you didn't plan to go can happen, it did for one of my characters.

That's usually when i know that the game and the character are really working as it takes you, as the audience, into places you weren't expecting.

So what happened? Is it as strange as my business tycoon druid?

Details if you please.

Playing a thi-kreen druid trapped on a different prime material plane (yes this game did go into epic levels) due to Orcus making a play to be come a god by cutting off access to the other planes and altering weather to try and starve people into worshiping him. All I wanted to do was go home to my family to get off this ball of rock.

By the end of the game I had taken over the desert area where a fallen comrades race was obliterated as a demonstration of power. and established a series of bedoiun style communities (moving means Orcus' forces had a harder time finding you. After planartravel was restablished I then brought my tribe of thri-kreen to a new world, capable of expanding our tribe without warfare back home. Due to the connections I made with the Drow (behind the backs of my goody goody allies) I conquered a reptilianoid jungle to provide additional resources, food etc in game. Yea a druid with an 8 yr lifespan who just wanted to see his wife and kids became the king of about 1/6 of a continent.
