PbP assistance required

Gamer Connection

Hi all, I am interested in running a PbP game, but I am not sure on how to do it. Is there anyone who could give me some advice and help. The campaign I am thinking of running is "Curse Of The Crimson Throne" and any help would be greatly appreciated.

Thank-you in advance

Run the game as if it were table top (though not quite)

Things to do
1) Open a Recruitment thread

2) In Recruitment thread
-> set the character creation rules.
-> game play rules and world.
-> Define the player selection process.
-> Set closing date for recruitment.
-> Sample Here

3) During recruitment, Prepare your stuff and prepare yourself,
(Homebrew get stuff written down, published stuff read it all, ... etc)
(this may include setting up NPC aliases (Generic or Defined))
and help the players with any problems and answer their questions (unless it's a spoiler).

4) On recruitment closing day open the Discussion thread
(if you want to iron things out or talk with the players out of game about the game)
and the Gameplay thread with the opening post being the intro to the campaign.

So would I just write down all the details as if I were GMing a Tabletop game from the book? Or do I expand on the details given, I am in 2 currently and they are both pretty detailed.

Take a look at some of the existing Curse AP PbP games. See how other DM's are handling it. Steal ideas where appropriate.

Decide how tactical you are comfortable with for your combats.
1) text driven, people state actions within reason to act out combat
or develop maps
2)simple spreadsheets like excel of googledocs
3)or crating and updating MAPtools maps

That's a matter of personal taste. I try to write what I'd be saying at the table, and when I pull text out of the AP (I'm currently running a Kingmaker game) I try to change it up at least a little. In general, I think it's better to try to avoid the wall of text effect.

I recently wrote a couple of blog posts on tips for success with a Play-by-Post game. You might find some of them helpful:

Thank-you for your help everyone, I have taken what you have suggested into consideration and will probably put up a recruitment thread later on, once I have read a fair bit of the 1st book. IronWolf, your thread was very helpful thank-you, I may refer to your notes frequently, just to make sure that it will be enjoyable for the players.

Just a quick question, how many players do you think would be advisable when I run this campaign?

This thread contains some useful advice on how to streamline the process of running a PbP. Also, I have links to a few helpful resources in my profile if you'd like to avail yourself of them. ShortKeys will be a godsend, I assure you.
