We'll be doing a Flip-Mat that ties into the opening encounter of the Rise of the Runelords Adventure Path when we reprint the entire series in hardcover next summer. The recent "Academy of Secrets" ties into the Wizards Academy Map Pack. Also, many (I'd even say "most") Pathfinder Society scenarios use Flip-Mats and Map Packs.

However, make sure you get one with a handle that isn't just sewn to the top seam like this or this. Accumulate enough flip mats, and that portfolio gets pretty heavy, and the handle just can't take it. You want one with straps that are more integrated with the portfolio like this or a reinforced handle like this.

Mine usually stay folded up. Yes, it does cause some material fatigue at the folds, but I've been able to remove any lingering marker residue there with a paper towel and water, or glass cleaner for the stubborn ones.
This is what I do and it works out fine for me. Then I just slide them on the shelf next to my books.

Me too. I have WAY too many of these things (all but three -- and I also have a few "doubles") so that the sheer storage space required for all my flip-mats is considerable. They occupy a solid foot (and probably a little more than that), left to right, on my gaming bookshelf when they are all folded up next to one another.
Moreover, it is the foldable nature of the flip-mat which makes them so highly convenient to me. Using an Artist's Folio to store and carry them around is higly impractical for my purposes. Storing them under a mattress and so forth (and not folding them up) in order to ensure they lie perfectly flat runs counter to one of the princiapl reasons I find the utility of the product to be so high. For me the flip-mat MUST be folded in order to be transported from my home to a PFS session.
Plus, I must say I've got used to the procedure to unfold them and then use some opposite folding/bending to ensure they lie more or less flat on the table during use. It's not perfect, but for the most part -- it's good enough.
I love this product line, I truly do.
In terms of ensuring that every now and then we see some different "blank" flip-mats is one of my hopes/concerns. For example, I'd like to see some variations of green and brown for blank sides on future flip-mats. A lighter ash wood plank color would be nice, too. Don't get me wrong, I generally prefer double sided maps in terms of images, but if the reverse image must be blank, I'm far happier with such mats when the background color on the blank side is NEW and therefore provides some new utility.
