Part grab and CMD

Rules Questions

Dark Archive

When a creature with grab grabs, it can choose to only use a part of its body. This results in a -20 mod to its CMB to maintain the grapple.

Does this in any way affect its CMD to resist having the grapple broken?

If so, is this changed if the person being grappled decides to switch grapple (i.e. become the grappler) rather than just break it?

Cheers

CMB and CMD are two separate stats. Modifiers to one do not automatically apply to the other.

I understand, however I would have thought that if you were at -20 to maintain a hold, the -20 would apply whether you were trying to keep it or your opponent was trying to break it.

No, the -20 does not apply to CMD.

The -20 penalty is steep enough as it is, if the creature is able to make that roll from round-to-round, the PC can earn his way out.
