Magical Lineage Talent + One-Level Metamagic

Is there a consensus on how this works? The Magical Lineage trait says that you can treat one specific spell's final adjusted level as being one lower than it would otherwise be. Nothing indicates that this ability enforces a minimum one-spell-level bump. For that matter, nothing explicitly says that I can't reduce a spell's level with a no-level-adjustment metamagic feat.

If I apply a one-level metamagic feat (let's say... Toppling Spell to a magic missile), does my magic missile still only take up a first-level spell slot?

1st-level spell, +1 adjusted level, -1 final adjusted level = 1st level spell.

If that's how it works, that's pretty extraordinary. I can make my magic missile lock a guy down on the ground with no check, no roll, and no save. Only SR applies. That's pretty significant, considering that I can spread my missiles around to multiple targets, too. Crowd control, thy name is Magical Lineage.

Legit? Yes? No? Thoughts?

Yes you are correct in that a toppling magic missile with magic lineage (magic missile) is a first level spell.

There is a roll involved though. You still must make the trip check roll to knock him down.

I think you can reduce a spell to its original level (i.e. your toppling magic missile), but not below it. My interpretation is that it's intended to reduce the total metamagic level adjustment by one, rather than the final spell level itself.

Yes, one of my characters use it, no problem so far, you just save a few spellcasting power when casting your favourite spell. Very useful (almost mandatory) for blasters.

Really stupid question... But would this trait also work for Words of Power, and Metawords?
