I am interested in building a fighter who focuses on unarmed combat and grappling. One of the routes I have considered taking is starting as a monk and taking all of my remaining levels in fighter.
The monk level would give me a number of benefits that a level in fighter would not give me. It'd give me a larger damage die for my unarmed attacks(free improved unarmed strike plus extra damage), the ability to do full strength damage with unarmed offhand attacks (free double slice), improved grapple for free, stunning fist for free, a nice boost to all my saves, and some extra skill points. Granted, I'd lose two hit points, but everything else seems to be a net plus. (also of note would be that I'd lose both flurry of blows and my AC bonus because he wears leather armor.)
Additionally, the level of monk would give me a very interesting origin story for my character. He's an orphan raised and trained in a monastery who grew discontent with his life and ran away to join a circus as an acrobat and strongman.
What do you all think?

Make sure you look at the archetypes for monk and fighter. There are some that are really good for what you're trying to do.
Solid idea though.
Ohh, I forgot to specify that I'm only using the material in the core Pathfinder Player's Guide. None of the expansion stuff is available.
