Does anyone have any useful links or tips for generating companions? I figure I can probably use the Character Builder without too much trouble to come up with a character sheet, but I wondered if there was something out there designed specifically to track and print out companions (hopefully on one page).

I have the old version of the character builder but it has a page for your companions. It is under the 'Manage' tab. I presume the Essentials version has the same function somewhere. I have not used it but I believe when you gain your companion 'power' you pick your companion and it adds it to the companion tab. The 'Shop' tab allows you to add items of equipment to your companion.

Cheers. I wasnt very clear - I meant a companion character rather than an animal companion. I can build it easily enough using one of the monster builders, but I can't see a way to import PC-class powers. If necessary, I'll type them in manually, but it would be easy if I could just cut and paste from a list of the appropriate class's powers.

Frankly, I wouldn't focus quite so much on giving them powers identical to those PCs receive. The really defining features of a companion character are that they have daily powers (monsters typically don't) and they have healing surges. If you need a daily power for a quick companion character, find an elite monster who is similar to what you're trying to make and steal one of its encounter powers.

This is what I've done so far (we have 2PCs with one companion each and they tend to come in and out of the party every couple of levels, so there's a relatively high turnover). However, the next cameo is a controllery fighter and I was hoping to give him come and get it (since the guy who will play him loves that power). It's easy enough to type it in manually, but it occurred to me there might be an easier way.

I'd think that making them in monster format would serve better then character format. A character sheet is something meant to store a lot of information. A monster block is something designed to be used with ease. I'd generally think that ease of use trumps information storage for Companion Characters so designing them off the monster stat block makes more sense.
