I also have a 3G, and have not felt a need to upgrade.
I think the iPhone 4S (What's with the naming?) was a little underwhelming. It doesn't offer anything that is not already available in current android phones. I'd rather have a Galaxy II than an iPhone 4S.
The Siri thing is interesting. But it's just a piece of software. I'm sure someone will make a similiar function for Android.

Siri was bought from a company where voice recognition was the only thing they were doing and had been doing for a while. Unless there is a similar company out there at a mature level, they may actually have the edge on Android where this is concerned for a while. If it takes off on the iPhone, then one will hit Android eventually, but I get the feeling this isn't some small developer-type piece of software. This takes serious smarts to pull off.
I'm wondering if the unimpressive showing is because the iphone 5 just isn't ready yet. Apple doesn't announce a piece of hardware until its ready to go. Usually this event happens in Sept at a bigger venue. I'm thinking maybe they delayed as long as they could, but when they realised that the iphone 5 just wasn't up to snuff yet, they pulled the trigger on the invitations and decided to hold it in a smaller venue.

Yep, iPad 2 has an A5. It's actually the reason I made a :-( face during the keynote at the iPods which still have the A4. Without the graphics boost in the A5 I don't see 200 dollars as being anywhere near worth it for a new buyer or upgrader. Better to wait a year for A5 speced iPods.
I understand that people are kinda grumpy that there wasn't a case update or radical upgrades I the guts (or G4 wireless), but I kinda like the looks of the 4S. The World phone and A5 processor (not to mention the interal camera) make it very attractive a combined device. I wish I was in a finatinal place to consider an Unlocked 4S so I can get bite back against being "required" to have a Data Plan (which I don't need).
I guess I should sit down and price it out as a phone, PDA, point & camera replacement. See if it actually works out.... The downside is right now my current iPod Touch 3rd Gen PDA isn't feeling aged yet. I'll see how it handles iOS 5. I do need a new point and shoot, my last one is crapping out and the iPad just isn't cutting it as a replacement.
Over all it's the software that intrigues me more then the actual Hardware at this point. Siri, if it works, will be a big step forward in the consumer space for natural language voice commands. My hobby/concern right now is watching for the parts needed to make a fully interactive device that can "work" with a kid as a personalized tutor. Siri, the face recognition Apple uses, and the MS Kinect are all parts. In education there is this wave coming with budget cuts to try and use technology to make education in the class room "more efficient". The problem I see is that they want personalized instruction, which can't really be done at "computer" levels of efficiency until the computer can react to the "mood" of the user/student. Currently it's mostly on the teacher (and support staff) to make those kinds of judgment calls even in fairly automated systems like Accelerated Reader/Math.
