I threw a bunch of PF Tales into my sidecart to bump the price of my October subscription shipment up over 100 bucks. Is that going to count to reduce the shipping costs, or no?

Your subscription shipment should definitely qualify for the First Ten Shipping promotion. The totals and shipping and handling fees you see on the My Subscriptions page are just estimates and don't take into account for things like the First Ten Shipping promotion (those get figured in when the order is actually created). When the order is created (i.e. when you get your first email about the next subscription shipment), it should show up there.
