How do I travel the Planes?

Advice

I'm interested in traveling the planes. The game I am in is set in a godless world, and I would like to go see where the gods are sleeping. The lowest level method I can see is the Astral Caravan Power from Dreamscarred Press. Psionics is allowed so this seems like a good choice. I was wondering if you folks knew of any better methods. I'm up for safer solutions, or easier ways. I am aware of astral projection, but 9th level spells are very rare in this world. Thanks in advance.

Sorcerers and wizards get plane shift.

Plane shift, cleric lvl 5, would also be available to oracles. Could be duplicated by limited wish at need.

Ethereal jaunt and etherealness both work as well.

Get (un)lucky with an exploding bag of holding/portable hole still works IIRC.

Amulet of the planes, well of many worlds.

Gate, of course.

Also, you could probably use planar binding or planar ally spells to call up a creature and convince it to take you back to its home plane pretty easily.

Knowledge (Plane, Arcana or History) check to find a permanent door/gate?

Play a Magician Bard, get half your level as a bonus on Knowledge (arcana), have a decent intelligence and spend your skill points and a feat on skill focus : knowledge (arcana), and by level 5, you can net a +15 on your check. Take 20 (lore master), possibly using a good library for further bonuses.

You can now beat a DC of 35+ on knowledge (arcana), almost the same(30+) on a knowledge (history) and find what you are searching for.

Why create your own gate when you can find and use old ones?
