1. Are these natural occurences, being giant and all.
2. will the babies be giant if not?
Also not related to owlbear but about how long of a time frame do you allow between River Runs Red and the Vanishing at Varnhold

I ran this session two weeks ago.
What I did:
The "papa bear" was abnormally large. Huge even. This was not the result of any magic, growth hormones, etc. Some owlbears are just bigger than others. But the fact that he is huge is why Eirikk selected him. I imagined Eirikk just looked around the Narlmarches for the biggest thing he could find, and used it. (I mean, why use an average owlbear?)
I had the "moma bear" be normal sized.
The babies are still babies. However, if my PCs raise them (they did take one back with them) I will describe them as growing up "larger than normal" thanks to daddy's genes. They will still be the same size category as a normal owlbear though (ie they will be "Large" instead of their dad's "Huge"). Kindof like you can play a 7ft tall, 300lbs human and still be "Medium".

As for the Varnhold issue, that's something I'll be grappling with over the next weeks. I'm going to go with "when the time is right." My group weary of "dungeoning" after having the back-to-back Hargulka-then-Owlbear combo. So for me, it'll be a while. I'll be throwing in lots of social sidequests in the meantmie.
