As per the title. If they don't, is there any reason a caster couldn't hurl more than a dozen colossal-sized weapons with the spell; assuming said weapons are at hand? It just seems odd to me that, with a dozen or more successful to-hit rolls, one could deal as much as six times as much damage as a conventional blasting spell of the same level (such as cone of cold). Am I missing something or is this legitimate use of Telekinesis?

Weapon proficiency or size has nothing to do with telekinesis. Just total weight and the number of objects.
Yes, you can use up to 15 weapons @375 lbs (lvl 15) in this manner. A typical CR 12 monster has 27 AC, or 25 with minions. A 12th wizard will have 6 BAB, 5-7 INT bonus, you'll probably have +12 to hit with each object. Less than half of the objects are going to hit, most likely. Telekinesis used in this way passes SR though, and that is a big point in its favor. But then spells like Cone of Cold does area affect, and that will easily tip the scales toward it.
If the target does have a very low AC for whatever reason, giving a reasonable chance for all the objects to hit, then yes, it does better damage for sure. But for such low-AC monsters, you're probably better off casting something smaller or nothing at all.
