EfoK: Questions about the Vivified Labyrinth

Curse of the Crimson Throne

PCs have just entered the first rotator.

1) How have other DMs dealt with Vimanda? She's supposed to show up pretending to be Orsini, right? ISTM PCs will either see through her disguise quickly, or not at all. If the former, great, fight. If the latter, then what's her plan? Presumably she'll want to keep them away from the cell with the real Orsini...

2) Bahor / Glorian can see all through the ring he's given to one PC (which the PC eagerly snapped up, no questions asked). So, he'll know if the PCs are killing his sister or not. If they're not, I would think he'd try to intervene at some point, either to subtly blow her cover or otherwise provoke a fight. If they do kill her, then I imagine he'd mostly stop caring what the PCs do, as long as they get out of his dungeon without doing too much more damage. Yes?

IMC, the Arkonas have a lawful good family member who they keep around for lulz. Bahor might send her down into the dungeon to finish the party off...

Anyway, I'd be interested to hear what others have done here.

Thanks,

Doug M.

Liberty's Edge

Party A somehow (and to this day I still can't figure out the combination they used) managed to pull the right levers in the right order to totally miss Vimanda until after they had freed the real Orsini.

Party B on the other hand ran right into her as Orsini and she suggested they bug out, which they started to do, until the party teleported. The Sorcerer went first, then they sent Orsini. Then the party got into a long debate over who would go next, all the while "Orsini" was kicking the Gnome's @$^...Next person showed up and found the Gnome bleeding out and "Orsini" with a sword. "Orsini" took him out next just in time for the next person to show. Finally the last one into the room was the Ranger with the Holy Crossbow (the only weapon the party had that could hurt her) so he got to finish her off and then clean up the mess.

So I kind of had the best of both worlds. Either way she was a piece of work. The SR on the Rakshasa's actually finally broke one of my players will's (he was a blasting sorcerer) and he missed some time in the middle of the campaign as he needed to cool off. Sadly his build and theirs was a perfect storm of frustration. Just saying, be careful with all those SR badies. They can irritate even the best of players.

Liberty's Edge

Her plan is to slay the party to "Deny" Bahor the party as a piece in the great game. She isn't stupid, however. In a straight up fight they will win most of the time. However, since they don't know she is not Orsini, she has the power of time. She Knows the place and can suggest a way "out" that actually leads them into some of the Symbols and thus when they are weakened, or some of them are Incapacitated she can smash them. The entire time she is going to try to pry info and their feelings out of them. If they can be turned to her own means (and by that I mean to turn on her brother) then that is a far better outcome than smashing them. If as Orsini she can convince them that they need to go back upstairs and take out Bahor then that will become her focus.

As for Bahor, well If he sees his sister turn the party he will grab all his minions and they will attempt an Ambush in the Garden (heaven help your party if they are prepared and ready for them) At that point you better have Vimanda help them or they probably won't survive. Bahor by himself is a truck, you give him help and the dice had better be hot for the party and not for the Rakshasas. At the least, have Vimanda suggest they align their weapons (and suggest heavily any piercing weapons be the ones that are aligned). She would know that without Lawful and Piercing the party is never going to survive.

If on the other hand the party dispatches her and continues on their way Bahor will probably stand down. He needs the party to collect Kalepopolis and for that figures they probably also need Orsini. He knows that the two of them know how to beat the queen and has an inkling as to what the answer is. But his plan is somethimg more along the lines of, wait in Korvosa, build up power bases and wait for the party to return with the sword, let them dethrone the queen then pop in and take over. Alternatively, he could wait for them to get the sword then try to take the sword and use it with his minions to overthrow the queen. I am convinced that at this time in the story line he isn't sure which one of those plans is better, but both of them require the party to leave with the 2 men and go get the sword.

Hi Douglas,

I just copy this from another thread. This is how my players did it:

The PCs went down in the labyrinth, met Melyi in the disguise of Vencarlo. They did not totally trust her/him, but they were separated from the fake Orsini as Sivith pulled a trigger deeper in the labyrinth, trying to hunt the players down. after that the PCs unfortunately went straight ahead to Sivith's temple and encountered there the real Orsini and freed him. Then they met the darksphinx (or the darksphinx met the the group), killed her and stumpled upon Melyia in a new disguise: a young woman, an undercover agent of Cressida Croft who tried to infiltrate one of the drug trafficking gangs of the Arkona's but was unmasked not long thereafter. this time they trusted her a little bit more but they decided to stay down in the labyrinth to search for the seneschall and not to go up with the agent to kill Glorio. so meliya decided to finish them off - and was killed in pretty intense battle.
