So I am wanting to make a multi-class fighter/cleric that is devoted to glory in combat. But I am trying to decide which class to start out as because of weapon and armor proficiencies.
If you start out as a cleric then multi-class into fighter do you gain the fighter's weapon and armor proficiencies as well, or just HP, AB, Saves and Abilities?
I know I can just take the appropriate feats to gain what I want, but at the same time I am anally frugal and don't want to waste feats gaining proficiencies if I can help it.

Yes, you do gain heavy armor and martial weapon proficiencies when you multi-class into a fighter. A crusader cleric from Ultimate Combat might be a decent choice to do so as a single class cleric, it gets a domain less and -1 spell per level, but gains a bonus feat at 1st, 5th, 10th, 15th, 20th. It also gains a nice ability to buff multiple characters at once at 8th level.
It might end up paying off better than a multi-class character.

Is there a particular reason that you want a multiclass fighter/cleric?
A single-class cleric is probably a better melee fighter than a fighter/cleric or even a single-class fighter, if you're looking for front-linerness.
I can understand about the frugal part, but taking a level in fighter is not being frugal. Paying a level of casting to change BAB from 3/4th to full and increasing hp is not a good deal.

Generally, as a rule, it is easiest to remember that when multi-classing, you gain all the benefits of the new class, but keep all the restrictions of the old one. And vice-versa.
So if your cleric hypothetically had any kind of weapons restriction, you'd still have it with levels of fighter, even though you might now be technically proficient with the restricted weapon.

I am basically wanting to make a more physically combat oriented cleric that wields a 2-hander and heavy armor. Unfortunately I only have the core rulebook for pathfinder and thus I don't have the class info on the crusader cleric but I did find some info online about it. That sounds like a better option than multiclassing though. Any way to get an SRD on the crusader?
But for future reference if I started as a cleric then took fighter I WOULD get the added proficiencies right?

Doesn't matter what order you take them in, you get all the weapon and armor proficiencies. Unless one of your classes has a specific weapon or armor restriction (such as the druid), or class abilities that are penalized by use of armor (monk, sorcerer, wizard), you can mix and match them as you wish.
