flat footed plus touch attacks

Pathfinder First Edition General Discussion

If you catch an opponent flat footed with a touch spell, do you target their touch ac, their flat footed ac, or do you subtract both the modifiers from their ac and target what's left?

Grand Lodge

They don't get armour, shield or natural armour bonuses because it's a touch attack. They don't get DEX or dodge bonuses because they're flatfooted. You would indeed remove all of these listed bonuses from their standard AC (or remove DEX and dodge bonuses from their listed touch AC). Penalties still apply.

Basically, all that's left to modify their AC is their size. This is why wizard/rogue multiclassing is as viable as it is-- sneak attacks with rays.

Though oddly enough, monks still get their Wisdom modifier to their AC.

Deflection still counts. It's still a terrible spot to be in.

Actually, all of the following still apply:

Size
Deflection
Luck
Sacred/Profane
Circumstance
Competence
Morale
Alchemical
Untyped

Now, most of those are pretty rare. Untyped (cover), size, and deflection bonuses are extremely common, though.

Liberty's Edge

To be even more thorough, there are a total of 6 AC levels for a given character:

Normal
Flat-footed (lose dodge/dex bonuses)
Touch (lose armor, natural armor and shield bonuses)
Flat-footed touch (lose dodge, dex, armor, natural armor and shield bonuses)
Incorporeal touch (lose armor, natural armor and shield bonuses unless they are force effects)
Flat-footed incorporeal touch (lose dodge, dex, armor, natural armor and shield bonuses unless they are from force effects).

At least, these are the ones I know of. Conditional modifiers (such as the urban barbarian's crowd control ability) can give you a lot of permutations for AC, but all characters should have the 6 listed above.
