Jason - thanks for the input. replies to your points.

1) It's a long term penalty (Dex penalty)
It's really just an explaination on why her dex is an '8' - which is going to be her "dump stat" - this will be a real change for my wife, normally her #2 stat is Dex, and as she was writing up the character it hit her (-1 INIT), and she said "now I can see why you guys always say 'Rolling like a cleric' when you roll a low init.
2) Eventually she gives birth
In PFSOP there never seems to be a passage of time. So part of my original question was "how long can she be "in a family way"?". I'm guessing this could be years, and all the time she is X months along.
3) Eventually she can't adventure (too pregnant)
Again - no "passage of time". see #2 above
4) Eventually she has a child. What do you do with teh child?
This would be fun to create wouldn't it? you know, lots of RP opertunities even with the child/children off camera.
5) GMs and players negative feelings on the subject
This is the one I am trying to understand (and the one that blindsided me totally) and gage. Do I need to advise her to avoid this in PFSOP because of negative feelings? is Pregnant a condition we shouldn't RP?

Opps! got to go, I'll check back later for more comments!

I would be quite pleased to have said character in my group. Keep in mind, my character would practically sit on her to keep her safe and wouldn't let her do much that is dangerous, and I have a hunch a great many pcs would do the same.

All that aside I'm suggesting there might not have to be rules for her carrying a child. If she's anything other then human there is no telling what a elf female's pregnancy might be like so it's just as easy to rule there aren't any. If she is a human female for the most part it's a role play issue, and you don't absolutely HAVE to have mechanics to it.

Untrue, depending on which books you're willing to go into. The Book Of Erotic Fantasy sets out suggested pregnancy rules for almost any race used in the fantasy world, I would suggest starting there and checking rules.

I'd think as big as they are, that the Pathfinder Society should have a day care... :) The shadow lodge would be perfect for this. :D

My wife asked me about this as she was drawing up her new PC. Seems she was looking a dumping Dex and figured this would be cute. So, if a Player states her PC is visibly pregnant (that would be "with child") and role plays it to the max (I can see some fun times at the tables ahead) can she just stay that way? I mean, as far as I can tell, time away from the table is kind of abstract so ... how long can she be "in a family way".

I told her she could always have her PC take a few month off to have the kid, develope the condition again and go adventuring again. Kind of odd thou, having a PC who only adventures when she is 5+ months along.

Anyway - just wanted to hear other peoples thoughts on this.

That's.... odd :) Could definitely be amusing.

I don't think there's anything in the rules about it, but I can see a GM coming up with some extra obstacles for the party as a result.

Also, in a "real" medieval society... really, in any society, she'd be strongly encouraged to avoid putting herself (and the baby) in danger if it's at all avoidable. What's her rationale for going out and risking both lives adventuring while she's preggers?

Just put a pause on your current game and run a temporary module for the other players. Use it as a good time to try something new.

I think it's a great idea! I know some people seem hung up on inventing rules to account for her condition, but I think it's a great way for a low DEX to be explained. Anyone who's seen 'Kiki's Delivery Service' will know that Osono's pregnancy is never really dwelt upon, it's just a way of building her character (and giving a good reason for her to need a dexterous helper at her bakery).

The Pregnant Badass is a well-known trope, and as to the duration issue, well, getting to 12th level only takes 33 adventures; a PFS character could end up doing it in just over a month. And if not, well it wouldn't be the first character to have an unexplained overlong pregnancy...
