I've not GMed a PFS scenario before, how does it work for online players to fill in the chronicle sheets? Do I just sign them and post them out to you? Deevor, I have your chronicle sheets for the novels, was waiting for the scenario to be finished to send them all out together.
Has anyone read "The Winter Witch"? I just noticed that it was authored by Elaine Cunningham. I really liked some of her Forgotten Realms novels, especially "Elfshadow" and "Elfsong", though her other works weren't quite the same.

When I've run PFS online in the past, I've just pasted the chronicle page into Paint and added the relevant details before emailing it to the various recipients, using my Paizo.com account name in place of a signature.
Actually, now that you mention it, I've read that one too. I thought it was a pretty interesting read, and it's got a lot of world lore in there too. I want to say it has a similar feel to the Elfshadow/Elfsong books; but it's been a long time since I've read those books so it might just be my subconscious making connections that aren't really there. On the other hand, Dave Gross' contributions do stand out quite a lot too, I think it's thanks to him that the mechanics of the pathfinder system read so well in the novel.

Thanks, I'll try to do somewhat similar. So, that means do I need everyone's email addresses?

Don't worry about chronicle sheets for the books, I have found a real life society group down here, so I can get them completed by the DMs there.
Finished reading the Winter Witch the day before yesterday, not as good as 'Death's Heretic', but still worth the it. Nice easy read.
Ok Deevor, but if for whatever reason you need me to process them for you let me know.
Will need to keep an eye out for those books.

Speaking of chronicles, we didn't get chance to roll day jobs at the end of part 1, will we be waiting until the end of the arc?
I'm fine with rolling just now for Part 1, and we're just wrapping up Part 2, so should be able to roll again soon.

I've just written two more reviews for Amazon UK. Feel free to click on helpful if you think they are of any use. I did stop reviewing when especially the books from the Pathfinder Tales series got no replies at all
City of the Fallen Sky
Numeria and Alchemist
This book is the 9th book in the Pathfinder Tales series. It is written by Tim Pratt who seems to have written a lot before - including a Forgotten Realm novel.
The main hero is Alaeron - an Alchemist from Almas, the capital of Andoran. He travels with Skiver, a gambling rogue Jaya - a ranger from the Mwangi Expanse.
I'm not trying to give away too much of the story - enough if I say it is an interesting story with well developed main characters and interesting relationships between them.
In regard to Golarion lore and the Pathfinder system we get introduced to the Alchemist in the form of Alaeron. Flashbacks to Numeria give some insights into this otherwise not much explored region.
The travel itself goes from Almas, via Absalom and Osirion to the fringes of the Mwangi Expanse. It then really nicely takes advantage of the Pathfinder Campaign Setting - Lost Cities of Golarion and the finale happens in the former flying city of Kho.
I admit I'm not a fan at all of mixing technology and fantasy. I rather avoid this combination if possible. But the book nicely introduced Numeria to me and maybe it helped a lot to settle a lot of prejudice I had and look at the combination more openly now.
All in all another book in the series that I can whole heartily recommend.

This one only will be available at Amazon in 2 days - so can't send in a review ahead of it

Exploring An Evil God and Nation
I've just finished reading the book and noticed it goes on sale at Amazon in 2 days (I'm a Pathfinder Tales subscriber - so tend to read hem ahead of appearing here in the UK) - so maybe a good time starting to review again.
The book is from a seemingly new author. Liane Merciel has written two fantasy books before as well as a short story in Pathfinder Tales. I haven't read the latter yet - but it should be available for free online at Paizo - so check it out there if you dislike buying a book from an author you never heard about.
The book tells the story of Isiem. It starts in the prologue when he is just 4 years old and ends some 20 odd years later when he is a accomplished Shadow Caller. What drives the story is the setting.
Isiem is born in Uskwood, part of Nidal. If you aren't that versed in Golarion lore - no worry - you don't need to know anything ahead of reading the book. You will learn about Nidal - a nation that turned to Zon Kuthon many thousand years ago after starfall and sold their souls to this evil god to be spared.
The book follows Isiem as he gets selected to train as a shadow caller as young boy together with other members of his wayward village. What makes the book really strong is the way you follow Isiem and slowly explore the evil ways of Zon Kuthon through the training and struggle of Isiem and his friends.
It isn't always easy reading. I have a phobia for blood and at one stage had to put the book away as I felt physically impacted by the story. But I guess I'm just a softy - there is only as much as you can softball evil without becoming non believable.
So for whom is the book?
I can recommend it as a good read and to everyone who likes to explore a new author.
I also see this so far as the best description of an evil nation without at any stage glorifying it.
For Gamemasters and Pathfinder players who want to learn Golarion Canon
You learn about Nidal, Pangolais (capital of Nidal), the training of Shadow Callers, Cheliax and it's connection to Nidal, Hellknights and Strix. So if you want to know more of any of the above - this is the book to read.
It is not for anyone too young. I would like to slowly get my son to read Pathfinder Tales and this might have to wait for a while.

Hello folks. I think you're due an explanation as to what happened. Basically, my wife and I got to the brink of separation (and possibly divorce, I guess) but we've managed to see sense and sort things out.
So what happens from here on? Well, I'm going to play in CHH's game and hopefully continue on with the Society stuff with you guys. I have a Kingmaker game I'm hoping to continue but that'll be up to the players there.
I'm all paid up for the 'Con so hopefully get to see some of you guys again! I don't know if you guys have been keeping up with the news from the US PaizoCon, but Paizo are intending to create their own web-based VTT (virtual tabletop) which will use the Paizo maps, etc. I think that kind of software could be really useful for us in the future although there has been no release date yet!
Right, best be back to work!
(I've emailed Nick the scan of the chronicle sheet that I've done. Basically, I've filled in the bits the GM needs to do so you guys can fill in the rest. If there are any issues, let me know and we can iron them out when Nick and I get to the 'Con on Friday.)

Just an ahead warning. I will be helping a friend, fellow player and colleague later this week. I will be off home Thrusday afternoon to Saturday evening.
Friday to Saturday lunchtime I will be in he Netherlands. I will try to keep posting as much as possible but will do so from my phone while on the UK and likely not at all while abroad. You pay a lot of roaming charges - unless I find a free WiFi that is unlikely.
(I did write the text for a much faster running game - still applies here but guess here I will keep up.)

What do you guys think to the Game Space announcement? Would it be something we can look into migrating to when they release it (reportedly at the end of summer)? Given we're just playing Society games then using official Paizo content seems like it might help with the PbP aspect of our Society games?

I just want to introduce you guys to Bedmyr, the character I'm going to be playing at the Con. I had intended to go with Erik but I've noticed that I gave Bedmyr the credit so I'm going to stick with him just now.
He's a bit of an anarchic Dwarf who has a love of firearms and explosions. I'm going to multi-class him into Alchemist at some point to give him access to explosives.

Thinking ahead a bit, as some of us will be at PaizoConUK next weekend, I'm not planning to start the 3rd part of the First Steps series until I get back from that. I have the introductory text ready, so come Monday week (23rd) will be the earliest I'll start it.
Just so you know, I'll be away 2nd Aug - 6th Aug as I work at a local festival.

Ha Ha Ha ... Room for plenty more pins ...
As the song says ..'Like a rubber paladin I'll come bouncing back for you'...
Shame the half-orc barbarian with the great-axe took a dislike to your evil ranger god hating b**ch, otherwise she might have got away with it.
Note to other Lodge members ... beware the Thod DM ... he rolls much better than his players, (all legitimate open rolls).
On his table we all (including DM Thod) got to roll a D20 to get a 19,20 for a special character boon. On a table with 6 players, 1 DM and rolls from the two DM's little helpers ... we got 4 '1's and the highest was 13 ... that's how we role on DM Thod's table. LOL

It wasn't the table - honest. I rolled 7 out of 8 or 9 out of 10 15+ in the last encounter.
Paladin and Cavalier in tin boxes and me rapid shooting at -2 ??
No problem - on the palading every single shot was a hit, the cavalier - AC22 in a tier 1-2 - only was missed once when the paladin was down and I double shot the cavalier.
Just good I never rolled a 20.

Yes, had a great weekend, made by the people I met, especially the people I've played with and never seen before. We'll have to be more organised next year and see if we can create a group of characters to play in the same tier and game. Too late in the day, i.e. the previous weekend, I looked at some t-Shirts for the lodge, designed a couple but it was too late to get them done, paid for and circulated to you all.
If I can find the designs I played with I'll see what you all think and maybe we should get them done now whilst I still remember!! Using online suppliers the costs were between £20-30-ish.
I must admit it was fun being DM'd by Thod for a game, good times.

I had a lot of fun as well, and it was great to meet some of you in person, hopefully we can do so again. Thod is a monster DM (I mean monster in a good way), it was great to play at your table again. And, the Great Conclave was excellent, what a lot of fun.
I agree, Nevis Lodge shirts would have been great. I toyed with a couple designs as well, Deevor we should see if we can get some of your shirts printed before the next time. Costumes too, I felt a bit "naked" next to everyone with their great costumes, and me with just a name badge! If only I'd at least found some tusks for my half-orc ranger!

Sounds like you guys had lots of fun! I wish I could have made it too, but unfortunately there have been three deaths in my family this week (one from cancer, the other two from old age) so it was probably for the best.
So, when shall we proceed with Part 3? I'm going to play Bedmyr, my level 1 Pistolero. Bringing the thunder!!
| Deevor |
I'm away at a music festival, (I work in the box office) from Thursday until Monday morning ... well I need a drink after it finishes Sunday night ... so I will plan to start the game on Monday/Tuesday if you're all OK with that. I'm happy to end Part II whenever you want.
Nostrus if you want to add the game thread for Part III - A Vision of Betrayal then I'll use my GM Deevor id to take us through.
I don't have the Ultimate Combat for the firearms stuff, so I'll take whatever is on the Paizo site in the Reference material, you'll have to help with it if I get confused with pistols ... I will assume firearms are rare or uncommon in Absolem. I'll have to read that bit up.

I'm sorry to hear about your loss, John. You were missed last weekend, but being with family is by far more important. Did you go up to Orkney?
