I'm not sure if this is mentioned in any of the books and I've missed it, but is there any information about unit names or ranks for Andoran's military?
I'm creating a backstory for a fighter who served in the military before becoming an adventurer, so before I start creating units/ranks out of thin air, I figured I'd check for any canon info.
Looking through my books, I only remember seeing info about the Eagle Knights.
Any thoughts?

Well in the Module Tower of the Last Baron (LB!) General Dakovya of Andoran is mentioned.
So we know Andoran's have Generals in their army.
In the Pathfinder Society Organized play, the leader of the Andoran faction is called Major Colson Maldris. I think he has recently been promoted from the rank of captain.
I dont think it would be a big stretch to assume the Andoran has traditional military ranks.
Ie Lieutenant, Captain, Major, Colonel, General.

I agree with Elyas. Spent some time searching for Andoran ranks myself to no avail. For referance, military ranks, from lowest to highest:
Army Ranks
Enlisted: Private, Private First Class, Specialist, Corporal, Sergeant, Staff Sergeant, Sergeant First Class, Master Sergeant, Sergeant Major, Command Sergeant Major, Sergeant Major of the Army
Officer: Second Lieutenant, First Lieutenant, Captain, Major, Lieutenant Colonel, Colonel, Brigadier General, Major General, Lieutenant General, General, General of the Army
Navy Ranks
Enlisted: Seaman Recruit, Seaman Apprentice, Seaman, Petty Officer Third Class, Petty Officer Second Class, Petty Officer First Class, Chief Petty Officer, Senior Chief Petty Officer, Master Chief Petty Officer,
Command Master Chief Petty Officer, Fleet/Force Master Chief Petty Officer, Master Chief Petty Officer of the Navy
Officer: Ensign, Lieutenant(junior grade), Lieutenant, Lieutenant Commander, Commander, Captain, Rear Admiral (lower half), Rear Admiral, Vice Admiral, Admiral, Fleet Admiral
Note: These are the current ranks in the U.S. military. You might consider dropping some to simplify things, especially from the somewhat confusing navy ranks.

You left out all of the warrant officers for the Army. As Andoran also has a strong naval presence, it is quite likely to have a marine corps in addition to it's navy and army.

I realize that. I left them out because they occupy a strange place in the ranks, outranking all enlisted and some officers, while actually being designated as their own thing.
Anyways, if you feel like using them, you can find them pretty easy with some google-fu. I don't feel like looking them up myself right now. Same goes for marine ranks, though I agree that including marines might be a good thing.

Given that an idealized colonial America is one of the basis for Andoran it might be worth doing some Google-Fu to find the rank structure and disposition of the U.S. military during, say, the War of 1812.
Seconded. Also the various citizen-militias used during the revolution.

I suppose you can go into as much detail as you want.
For me Lieutenant, Captain, Major, Colonel, General are all the officer ranks i would need for an army and for a navy, Lieutenant, Commander, Captain, Commadore, Admiral would be all the officer ranks i would need.
you might find a useful link here
I found an interesting discourse on military rank in the begining, some un looked for political rhetoric on "the right to bear arms" and towards the end some interesting information on Feudal ranks.
And if you want more information, Ivan has provided some more detail nicely.
I hope this helps

Officer: Second Lieutenant, First Lieutenant, Captain, Major, Lieutenant Colonel, Colonel, Brigadier General, Major General, Lieutenant General, General
Trying to find more historical ranks has proven difficult. I do know that there have not been a great deal of changes over the years, and most of them came during WWII or later. Exactly what those changes were, I can't remember and research is proving frustrating.

Here is a good article on US military ranks. It gives a listing of the ranks used by the US Continental Army and includes a few ranks that no longer exist in the modern army, i.e.; coronet, ensign and subaltern. I think the inclusion of said ranks would add a great period feel and would help to distinguish the Andoran army from present day militaries.
