Samurai Optimization

Advice

What is the best way to optimize a samurai? mounted archery taking ranged feats? Switch hitter? Please help, the options seem enormous.

Played a sammy recently. Focused not on mounted archery, but on two-handed wielding of kama. Went the power attack route. Coupled with challenge ability, was able to deal sickening amounts of damage with melee attacks even at lower levels. Used mount to close distance to foes in a hurry. Had a second sammy in our large group who was focused on mounted archery. He was good as well, but my guy struck way more fear into the heart of our poor DM during that short campaign. This was before UC was released, so I was using the bastard sword stats for the kama.

All depends on what flavor you are looking for I suppose. "Samurai CHOP!" was what I was going for. Lots of fun. I will play the class again.

Okay, so melee is better?

Silver Crusade

Samurai can function with eather range or melee.

To optimize any character you will need the following.
1: How are you doing ability scores? If your rolling the ability scores you rolled. Need to know what feats you can take.
2: The theam behind the chracter what you want it to do.
3: What the other party members are playing. This helps make the character fit with the party better.
4: What books are alowed pathfinder or pathfinder, and 3.5.
5: Any restrictions the DM hase placed on the character creation.
